BBC Earth’s nature content fuses with Sega’s gaming technology to create Orbi, an indoor nature experience that will plunge visitors into the heart of the natural world through a visceral, multi-sensory edutainment experience. Sega Orbi opened three venues in Yokohama and Osaka, Japan, and Dubai, UAE. The motion platform was part of the exhibit titled ‘Herd Crossing’ and featured a 360 degree projection experience highlighting elephant herds in Africa. The motion platform used an airbag system to provide guests with a heightened sense of being in the middle of the action.
ArtistryWare was contracted to provide a TUV compliant design package including mechanical and electrical design, failure mode effects analysis, theory of operations, and other related documentation. The mechanical design was engineered by our mechanical partner, Andy Zhou, using SolidWorks. Using AutoCAD, our electrical engineer designed an Allen Bradley safety PLC system to control the platform and interface with the Medialon show control system.
Our technical direction partner, Sam Hatcher, provided complete project management and technical direction for the design, fabrication and installation of all the motion platform in both venues.
